Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. – Matthew 16:24
Corpus Christi, Texas is about to become the home of the tallest cross in the Western hemisphere and the SECOND largest cross in the world! Pastor Rick Milby of the Abundant Life Fellowship, one of the project leads, says the cross “will be visible up to five miles away by land and 10 miles away by air.”
His inspiration came from the nearby Sagemont Church cross in Houston, which is 170 feet tall. This cross will be 210 feet high, or about 19 stories high and 95 feet wide. That’s HUGE!! And it comes with the hefty price tag of $1 million.
This architect’s rendering shows the intended position and size of the cross, where currently a small wooden cross is marking the spot.
Perhaps one day a new cross will beat the record of 495 feet currently held by Madrid, Spain. For now, this group in Texas is VERY excited about their project – check out photos of the groundbreaking ceremony and the building site!
