Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In a world where belts are fashion statements and occasionally functional for cinching up ballooned waistlines, the fact that the belt is the central piece of Roman armor. Everything else buckles into it, attaches to it, and it holds up not pants – they didn’t wear pants then anyway! – but everything. Through Christ, we have the truth, and are held together in this.
