According to WCVB Channel 5 Boston, Patrick’s wake was a very sad occasion, as anyone would expect. When the ceremony was over, 22 of his friends gathered at a local restaurant to eat and reminisce about their fallen friend.

Once they tried to settle the check, they came to an amazing realization. The entire tab had been cleared and the person who did so did not want them to know their name.

As you would imagine, the tab was high and they were stunned. The bill for their meal came to over $400 but this was of no concern to the kind soul who paid it. They just wanted to provide the grieving locals with a temporary reprieve. Once they started to dig into the situation, they realized that their tab had been paid by a local police officer.

Sgt. Greg Pigeon was also grieving at the time. As it turns out, he had gone to the same high school with Patrick and was deeply saddened when he heard that the teen had passed away. While he is much older than these kids, he wanted them to know that they had a friend in him….even if he did not want them to know any of the specifics.

After all, this is what good deeds are truly about. We do not do good deeds because we want recognition from their recipients. Good deeds are about taking the love that exists within all of us and spreading it as far and wide as possible. Any time that we can brighten the days of the people around us, we jump at the chance.
