Singing Obstetrician Greets Every New Life With “Happy Birthday”

Dr. Andrew-Jaja is responsible for so many new lives in southwestern Pennsylvania that it would be hard to count. Andy remembers all of them.

Carey Andrew-Jaja likes to sing. But so do plenty of other people; what makes Andy, as he’s called by his friends, different is how, when and why he does it. As a practicing obstetrician at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. Andrew-Jaja is responsible for so many new lives in southwestern Pennsylvania that it would be hard to count. Andy remembers all of them, though: “They’re special, each of them is an individual – I’ve delivered thousands of babies, but when I’m singing to those babies, I’m singing to a future important person…the miracle of life.” When he stops and holds that child for the first time, he knows he lives in a wonderful world, when all the crises and thoughts of bad news just falls away. See this compassionate and joyful doctor serenade some newborns and reflect on just how wonderful life and the world are below!
