The 7 I AM Statements of Jesus

Some think Jesus never claimed to God, that perhaps this was an invention by early Christians or misreading Paul. The seven I AM statements of Jesus offer the truth of Jesus’ identity.

The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. —John 10:11

Immediately after claiming to be the door for the people of God, Jesus claims also to be their shepherd – who willingly lays down His life for the sake of His own. He leads and protects those who trust in Him, and does so by giving up His very life on the cross.

The Resurrection and the Life

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live…” —John 11:25

First-century Jews believed in an idea of “the Last Day,” when all would face judgment – but here Jesus claims more. That he would be the source of resurrection, and life for those who trust in Him, even those who died.
