‘Ordinary’ Church Shapeshifts With The Sunlight

The church doesn’t look like anything special at first, but from the right angle, it transforms entirely.

Gijs Van Vaerenbergh is the architect group that is responsible for the construction of this church. It was built in Borgloon, Belgium and from the looks of it, it does not seem to be anything that special.

However, once you have the chance to look at the structure from a wide range of different angles, things start to reveal themselves in a whole new way.

It’s one of the coolest buildings that we have seen in a long time. We have never seen anything quite like this before and we doubt that we ever will again. Did you know that this building is almost entirely see-through?

If you have never seen a building like this before, you are most certainly not alone. How on earth did the aforementioned architects manage to pull this one off? They used 100 layers of stacked steel. The team even managed to equidistantly stagger them to create this amazing visual effect. This allows the building’s appearance to change, depending on where the viewer happens to be standing at a given moment.

The pictures that have been shared are nothing short of majestic. It is enough to make you want to head to Google and start pricing flights to Belgium so that you can see it in person for yourself. The church may seem unassuming at first but this is a classic “do not judge a book by its cover” scenario.

You just never know what you are looking at. A structure like this one makes us wonder how many other buildings are out there that we have made wrongful assumptions about. The world is full of wondrous buildings like these and we pledge to keep our eyes peeled going forward. Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it.

We are still blown away by what we have seen here. We cannot begin to fathom the amount of work that went into this, let alone the planning process. This could not have been easy and we would like to take this time to give kudos to the architects. To design a building that is this unique, while remaining fully functional, is incredible.
