Three Ways to Make Sense Out of the World

Christians can often find meaning and value, even in the face of life’s difficulties in three distinct and powerful ways.

The second way that Christians make sense out of the world is through Hope. In this often broken and suffering world, hope is the source of our aspirations to find happiness in life. These aspirations for happiness are placed in our hearts by God. It is this hope that inspires and purifies the thoughts, the words, and the actions of our lives. It keeps us from becoming discouraged in the midst of life’s difficulties. It sustains us through times of abandonment, or rejection. Most importantly, buoyed up by this God-inspired hope, we are preserved from selfishness and are lead to charity for others. When we act out of his hope we find and even give meaning to those actions. It is in serving others in their difficulties that both the giver and the receiver find hope and deeper meaning, and are able to endure. But even more importantly, they are able to find happiness, even in the middle of their suffering.
