Three Ways to Make Sense Out of the World

Christians can often find meaning and value, even in the face of life’s difficulties in three distinct and powerful ways.

The first way is through Faith. We know that “…faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Hebrews 11:1) We have confidence because we know Jesus. We know God’s love for us was made flesh and dwelt among us, even though we were in the midst of our own sins. Though sin brought, and continues to bring suffering into the world, we know that it has been conquered, once and for all, by Jesus, the Christ. It is in faith that we can know that God will heal all divisions, that he will be with us in every trial, that it is in his word, Jesus, that we can come to know the real and true meaning of our lives in this world. It is faith in this eternally compassionate, loving and forgiving God that helps us make sense out of our efforts to turn away from sin and to confront it wherever it threatens to harm the innocent. We know that faith is the answer to evil, that it is a foretaste of eternal life. We also know that it is a product of God’s grace to those who open their hearts to Him.
