Copied on a daily basis, Grace Kelly’s wedding dress when she married Price Rainier in 1954 is still a standard for brides everywhere. Her rise to become a princess was well-documented at the time and there are very few of us upon which this amazing dress didn’t make an impression. While most royal wedding gowns are very conservative, her dress was modest and classic without being the tiniest bit dowdy. The New Look shape, lace inset, and fabric buttons kept the look fresh. But, the long sleeves and high collar kept it modest enough even for a royal ceremony. Kelly’s wedding gown, with its yards upon yards of silk and lace, was made by MGM as a wedding present for her and she later donated it to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
