Teen Finds Forever Home Just 6 Days Before Turning 18

Eric spent years hoping for a family of his own, and his wish was finally granted just days before he was to age out of foster care.

Life has a funny way of working out sometimes. There are moments when things just don’t seem to pan out in the manner that we want them to. That doesn’t stop us from trying, though.

For foster children, this can be an especially tough lesson to learn. Hundreds of thousands of children are forced into foster care on a yearly basis but only the smallest fraction are ever given the chance to find a home to call their own.

Sadly, there are numerous children out there who never get to grow up in a loving home with parents. For every fortunate child who is given the second chance that they so richly deserve, there are hundreds of others who are alone in the world well into adulthood. They do not know what it is like to be loved.

They are used to taking care of themselves and giving themselves the love that they need. According to FAA, this is the harsh reality that Eric had become accustomed to. To make matters even worse, he was on the verge of aging out of foster care completely. He had been in a number of placements but none of them had led to the permanent adoption that he was seeking.

Child Protective Services tried to provide him with the best chance possible. They found family members to place him with but that did not work out either. By the time Eric turned 16, he found himself back in the system again. If they did not find a home for him by the time he turned 18, he would be forced to figure life out on his own as an adult.

All Eric had to get him through was his own faith. He hoped for the best and was doing his best to keep his head up during these adverse circumstances.

“I want to go to Prairie View A&M, study business,” Eric said in an interview with WFAA. “I like writing poems. Doing music. Sports. I’m very active.”

Little did he know that his savior happened to be watching the news segment! Aaron and Eranisha Franklin saw Eric and knew that they needed to help him. Now, he is going to be spending Thanksgiving with his new family, as the judge was quick to grant the adoption.
