Sorrow, Anger, Depression – Whatever you’re going through, There’s A Psalm For That!

The truth is that we are broken and messy in just about every way; but we don’t have to just cover up the flaws. We have such an incredible resource in Psalms on how to walk through your emotions in a healthy, God honoring way.

Longing

Let me hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly. Surely his salvation is near to those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land. -Psalm 85

I love the confidence in these verses, “let me hear God, He will speak!” It is not wrong to long for something, but be ever watchful that your true longing is to hear God speak, and to follow wherever He leads.

Confusion

Hear my prayer, O Lord; let my cry a come to you! Do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress! Incline your ear to me; answer me speedily in the day when I call! – Psalm 102

Notice who this Psalmist is crying out to in his time of need? Not mom or dad, friends, or Facebook – he cried out for God himself to answer his prayer! That’s not to say that wise council isn’t helpful, or that we should go through life alone. By no means! God has placed people in our lives to guide us, to support us, and to show us the way. However, at the end of the day we are accountable for our decisions before the Lord, and knowledge comes from consulting the scriptures, and crying out to God!
