Change The Course Of Your Day With This Prayer

“I pray that when I wake up each morning, my heart, mind, and thoughts are of you alone.”

I get it. Mornings are rough. When I finally pry myself out of bed, I usually beeline for the coffee maker and then run through my ever-growing to-do list. So often I get in the mindset that I’m too busy to spend quality time with God in the morning. I push it off until lunch, and then dinner, and then before bed. Though more often than not, I’m exhausted by the end of the day, and fall asleep mid-prayer. If this sounds familiar, I’ve got some good news. You can take a few moments to read through this scripture and then follow along with the guided prayer below. It doesn’t take all morning, and trust me, it’s well worth it to start your day of in the right mindset.

Scripture – Exodus 20:3-6

“You shall have no other gods before me.

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

The Bible tells us over and over of God’s great love for us. From John 3:16, where God tells us his plan of salvation and how to attain forgiveness of sins, to Romans 8:35-39, where we see that nothing, no trial, no height, no depth, not even death itself can separate us from the love of God. That’s incredible! However, the Bible also tells us that God is a jealous God.

Pause to consider what idols you have in your life – and yes, we all have things we place above God, whether we’re conscious of it or not.

Prayer

Follow along with this prayer of forgiveness and acknowledgment of our great God.

Dear Heavenly Father, you are God. You have brought everything we know and see into existence. I bow, submit, and surrender to your will. Forgive me if I have unknowingly idolized something in my life, be it money, my career, or a relationship. Lord, forgive me for anything I have placed ahead of you in my heart.

I pray that when I wake up each morning, my heart, mind, and thoughts are of you alone. May my desires and plans for the day be of a godly nature. I pray that I will be thankful for Jesus’ death and the love he showed on the cross. May I always remember the grace you’ve given me, the new life, the clean slate.

I pray I never take your mercy for granted. And when it comes to ending the day, I pray the last thing I do is to give you praise and honor for your protection. I pray that every part of my day will be filled with your presence and that I will remain faithful to your Word and your instruction. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

One last verse for you to consider before you start your day – Isaiah 45:5-7, which reads, “I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things.”

God is all-powerful, over our days, our lives, even our thoughts and deeds as we continually die to ourselves and surrender to God’s will. May your day be full of joy and awe at what the Lord has done for us!
