How Many Opportunities Will God Give Us?

Today might be my only chance to talk to these people, was this the will of God?

During my witnessing venture in the city in which our church is located, I was overheated and exhausted and was going to go home and rest.  It was another hot and humid day in Kansas and all I could think about was getting into the AC and slamming down a cold drink of water.  But something tugged at my heart.  Instead of heading home to relax and cool off, I went to the city park and saw two young families who had taken their children to the park.  I thought, today might be my only chance to talk to these people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Perhaps I tried to talk myself out of it because I thought, these folks live in town and I had probably gone to their door already within the last two years.  Nevertheless, I stopped anyway and grabbed some Bible tracts and went to talk with these young parents.

I almost missed an opportunity.  I have only one life.  I want to take every chance I have to spread the goods news and if I had gone home instead, what an opportunity I would have missed.  What makes me say this?  One young couple was from out of town.  They were visiting family and attending a High School graduation.  They lived in Kansas City, about 300 miles away.  The other young couple was not as young as I thought.  They were actually there with their grandchildren.  They too were from out of town and they had been there visiting family and also had attended the local graduation ceremony.

I had such a wonderful feeling on the way home.  I had taken advantage of a chance to share the gospel with people that, in all likelihood, I will never see again.  Was this the will of God!?  I have no doubt that it is always God’s will for people to hear about Jesus Christ.  I need to take every opportunity I can.  I would not have had a second chance with these families.  Anyway, you’ll never know if you don’t try.  I’ve got to run the race, and run for their life…their eternal life in Christ Jesus that is.

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. – 1 Corinthians 9:24 (NIV)
