We find examples of worshipping the Lord in song and praise all throughout scripture. Psalm 71:23 tells us, “My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed.” And later on, in Psalm 150:6, we read, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!”

Today, I have a worship song for you that reads more like a personal testimony than a traditional hymn. “Mercy,” by Elevation Worship, is such a vulnerable song filled with humility and gratitude for the life God saved. Here are the opening lyrics:

Unsplash

I’m living proof
Of what the mercy of God can do
If you knew me then, you’d believe me now
You turned my whole life upside down
Took the old and He made it new
That’s just what the mercy of God can do

Now I’m alive to tell the story
How I’ve overcome
It’s His goodness and mercy
And the power of His blood
I’m so glad that my freedom
Wasn’t based on what I’ve done
But the goodness and mercy
And the power of the blood
So much power in the blood.

Amen to that! These lyrics bring tears to my eyes as I’m reminded of the darkness Christ pulled me out of and the weight of shame he took from my shoulders. But now I’m alive to tell the story….

What’s your story?
