Dolphin Speaks to Girl With Hearing Problems

Inspiration can come from anywhere, as 9-year-old McKenna McGrough discovered, during a trip to the aquarium. It was there that she encountered Winter, the amputee dolphin that inspired the movie Dolphin Tale. But it was not because of Winter’s celebrity that McKenna’s life was forever changed.

McKenna was inspired by Winter to wear her own prosthetic – a pair of hearing aides that she needs in order to hear properly. But prior to meeting Winter, McKenna was not a very willing subject, much to her parents’ and teachers’ frustration. However, upon seeing this amazing dolphin, who wears a prosthetic tail in order function normally, McKenna developed a whole new attitude about what’s cool and what’s not.
