Woman Reunites With Love Of Her Life After Racist Mother Tore Them Apart

It took 43 years, but Jeanne and Steve finally got to walk down the aisle together.

This story is a testament to what can happen when we are willing to take a chance on love.

This woman was forced to break up with the love of her life way back when because her family was not supportive of the relationship. For most people, that would be the end of the story. They would have to live with that regret forever and that would be that.

This woman is not most people, though! She was not willing to let the love of her life go without a fight, no matter how long it had been.

According to CBS Evening News, Jeanne Gustavson is 69 years old and the biggest regret that she has experienced in her life is the loss of her college sweetheart. She wanted to marry him but she did not do so.

So, why didn’t her family approve? The reason is an absolute heartbreaker and it is not acceptable to us in any way. Her family did not want her to be with the person that she loves most because he is black. Jeanne is white and she had to live with the aftereffects of this cruel line of thinking for many years. The couple is now sharing their story with the rest of the world.

It takes a lot to overcome this type of setback and we cannot believe that they were able to find their way back to one another. “Racism drove its wedge, but love wormed its way back,” they shared with the news outlet. Steve is a stronger person than we will ever realize. It had to have taken a lot for him to even be willing to talk to her again.

Even if she does not share the views of her loved ones, Steve could have easily told her to get lost when she found him again. Instead, he was willing to hear her out, and that had to take a lot of selflessnesses. It is easy to retreat into a world of hurt at times like these.

Steve and Jeanne are now happy together and they no longer have to worry about whether anyone approves of their relationship or not. It is beyond sad that we still need to have these types of conversations in the year 2022 but here we are. With any luck, this couple can continue to serve as a shining example of what can happen when people are willing to get past their prejudice.
