Be Joyful Always

Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all curcumstances. This is what God wants from you in your life in union with Christ Jesus. – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Our heart’s desire is to live life out of a sense of joy. The Holy Spirit is giving us a road map to that desire through Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians here. When we develop the habit of praying at all times, we place ourselves in the presence of God, more and more often. It is that attitude of prayer that opens us to the gift of joy. A prayerful heart is an open heart. It is the heart that is open that discovers the reason for gratitude in all things and all circumstances.

By developing the habit of joining our hearts, our minds, and our souls with Christ in everything we do, by placing ourselves in his presence and addressing him in the personal language of our prayers at all times, he will fill us up with joy. Yes, even in the midst of our troubles. We will know we are not alone. We will experience the graceful support of his Love entering everything we do. And what, then, would be our natural response? Nothing less than joyful gratitude.
