Thirty years ago, John Rieken probably should have died – thrown from his motorcycle in a violent crash that left him with multiple skull fractures, he lay bleeding with no heartbeat on the side of the road. What saved him? An unknown angel: Ann Cefalu, then a medical student in residency, saw the crash and jumped out of her car to help. Her treatment of John saved him.
