When most people reach 81, it’s after a good, long life, full of happiness and sadness, and retirement is a good thing of being settled down. For Agnes Zhelesnik, it was a time for a lot bridge. The card games got old, but Agnes didn’t. So after raising children, looking after grandchildren and making a home for herself, it was time to teach the next generation how to do the same. That’s why 19 years ago, Agnes Zhelesnik became a teacher. Nearly two decades later, at age 100, she remains the nation’s oldest, with no plans of slowing down.
