Twin Tornadoes Destroyed This Nebraska Church – Well, Only the Building. Wow!

As software developer Daniel Bergquist says, the church isn’t a building, it’s God’s people. Its foundation isn’t a concrete floor with cracked and peeling tiles and muddy carpet, it’s Christ. So long as Christ is, the church shall stand, and he will never fail.

On June 16th, the town of Pilger, Nebraska was devastated by a pair of twin tornadoes tearing through the town. Along with several homes and city infrastructure, St. John’s Lutheran Church was laid waste. Well, their building was anyway.

Pastor Terry Makelin had intended to send St. John’s congregation to a sister parish, but changed his mind. So Sunday morning, in the place where their building used to stand, St. John’s Lutheran Church met for service.
