The Greatest Generation is this one.

While [the WWII and post war Generation’s] efforts were so vital to that time and produced some stellar hope and showed the strength and prowess of our country, I think we are entering an age of Christianity that may be the greatest we have ever known.

Those sentiments further indicate to me that this is the Greatest Generation. Christians are now allowed to let their hair down, recognize that they are imperfect, flawed, and to live. Not to air out all the dirty laundry to everyone, but that they have a calling to live in community with the people around them in a way that isn’t polished and perfect. Let the scars show, help the wounded, give the hungry food, and listen to those who story needs to be heard. Sure, we can dress for success and we can work hard, but instead of saying “I’m fine,” to our spouses and friends, we say, “work was tough today,” or, “I didn’t really get what the pastor was saying today.” The freedom that comes from knowing and having a relationship with Christ also asks us to struggle to find what pleases him. Our relationship is an active thing; not a place where we can check boxes everyday and feel fulfilled. We’ll have lean times where God feels far away; we’ll have great times of joy; but more than that- we’ll have a journey.

This generation is the one that just can’t phone it in anymore. This generation has a shift in priority- “If I can’t be honest with who I am, I don’t want this.” And that is the way Christ wants us- Christ called us individually, by name, flaws, gifts, baggage and all. He wants all of you. He sees you as a child, growing with him, not as some polished, empty piece on a pedestal. We won’t be perfect until Heaven, and Jesus who redeemed us, knows that. He knows we are in transition and that we are changing. When we embrace the fact that we live this life unfinished, to be completed in and through Him, we can truly step into the amazing things he has called each of us to.

Thus, our honesty in this generation, the effort to be transparent, the pursuit of what is truly of worth, finding the wealth of value in the simple graces, makes this generation one that is truly great.

May we glorify God, frayed and flawed and desperately loved by Him.
