Rest In Peace Andy Griffith

Today “America’s Sheriff” passed away at the age of 86. Join us in saying goodbye to this icon.

Today, America lost an icon. Andy Griffith passed away in his Roanoke Island, North Carolina home at the age of 86. Many of us grew up watching his popular TV shows, like The Andy Griffith Show or Matlock, either as they aired or in reruns, decades later. Andy Griffith brought to life characters that were paragons of Christian virtue. He showed that one could be kind, innocent, and caring to everyone they met. He portrayed an America that we all yearn for. That virtuous image carried off the screen and Griffith was known for his Southern charm.

Griffith wasn’t only an actor. Raised a Baptist, he initially began studying to be a preacher. He eventually graduated college with a music degree and worked his way into show business through theater and comedy, before landing movie and TV roles. Griffith also recorded several Southern gospel albums, winning the Grammy for Best Southern, Country or Bluegrass Gospel Album in 1997 and getting inducted into the Country Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1997. Andy Griffith was even awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. Say a prayer for this great actor and father figure many of us grew up with while you enjoy one of his gospel recordings.
