Paul McCartney Takes James Corden On Tour Of His Hometown In Special Carpool Karaoke.

From what we’ve seen here, he’s still got it! What a fun guy!

Fasten your seatbelts, folks, because you’re in for a wild ride.

On a very special segment of Carpool Karaoke on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” James meets up with one of his most impressive passengers yet: Sir Paul McCartney. James claims he doesn’t know his way around Liverpool, England, and who better to show him around than Sir Paul, who’s a Liverpool native?

The two even swapped off driving duties!

Paul, a founding member of the Beatles and an internationally adored music icon, could not be more pleasant company. In the 20-plus minute video, we watch as he chats with James, tells charming anecdotes about growing up in his hometown, and mingles with delighted fans and locals in town.

No matter where he goes, he leaves his mark.

As they drive past the landmarks that inspired McCartney’s early music, James and McCartney sing songs like “Baby You Can Drive My Car” (of course), and “Penny Lane.” They even drive to Penny Lane and go into a local barbershop that’s mentioned in the song, giving the owner the surprise of her life!

Beatles fans will love hearing McCartney’s stories and a sampling of the first song he ever wrote as a 14-year-old kid with a dream of making music. When he tells the story of how he came up with “Let It Be,” it’s hard not to feel stirred by the power and emotion behind the lyrics.

“I had a dream in the 60s where my mom, who had died, came to me in the dream and was reassuring me, saying ‘it’s gonna be okay, just let it be,’” McCartney said. As the two sang the song, James was moved to tears as he recalled how much his late grandfather enjoyed it.

The tour continued to the place where Paul lived for his formative teenage years, including poking around in the very room where he and John Lennon wrote their first Beatles song, “She Loves You.”

James even took a few moments to discuss the Beatles’ many iconic fashion statements. Paul did not seem terribly amused, but he was, of course, a great sport about it!

James covers so much ground in the tour, and Paul comes across as humble and loving throughout. It’s heartwarming to see him greeting fans like old friends, shaking hands, and handling all of the attention that follows him with such grace and class.

The segment concluded with a fantastic surprise gig at one of the local pubs where the Beatles used to play. The local pub-goers were astounded when a curtain in the room suddenly drew back, and there stood living legend Paul McCartney and his band, ready to play all their hits.

With James cheering along, Paul covered favorites like “A Hard Days Night,” “Life Goes On,” “Love Me Do,” “Back In The U.S.S.R,” and crowd favorite, “Hey Jude.”

This must have been a career high point for music-lover James Corden, and it is definitely one of the greatest Carpool Karaoke segments of all time! It’s a must-watch for Beatles fans, but anyone would enjoy spending some time with the joyful, peaceful man who gave us some of the most enduring music of all time.

Paul McCartney’s new album “Egypt Station” hits music stores this summer, and from what we’ve seen here, he’s still got it! What a fun guy!
