Family Decorates Church With Late Grandma’s Quilts For Her Funeral

The family had no idea how many quilts the grandma had actually made until they laid them out on the church pews for her funeral.

Last July, Margaret Hubl was laid to rest in the state of Nebraska at the age of 89. Wait until you see how they decided to send her off.

On the day of her funeral, her children and grandchildren decided to go all out to honor her memory. They took all of the quilts that she made for them over the course of her life and draped them over the pews at the church where the funeral took place. You can see a photo of the quilts, courtesy of Mark Weston:

The mere sight of these quilts is enough to make you choke up. “Never did I imagine how many there were,” said Margaret’s granddaughter, Christina Tollman, in an interview with Today. “We covered almost every single pew in that church. I never knew how many she actually made,” she continued.

The tradition began with Margaret sewing these quilts for her grandchildren as each of them completed high school. Before she passed on, she made three more quilts. Each of these quilts was crafted with one sole purpose in mind. The quilts are going to be gifted to each of these unmarried grandchildren on their wedding days. This led to some touching moments for all parties involved.

“I actually have three cousins that are not married, and the day of her funeral was the day that they got to see their quilts for the first time,” Tollman shared in the interview. “That was really kind of a neat moment.” It can be hard to lay a loved one to rest. That’s why we love to see these grieving family members receive such a powerful memento of their grandmother’s love.

“This is the love that Grandma made for each of us. This is what she made for each of us to wrap up in when we hurt, when we miss her, ” Tollman continued.

While it is never easy to lose a grandmother, these family members have a piece of her that will live on forever. They can wrap themselves in these quilts whenever they are missing her most, receiving some small form of solace in the process.

Our deepest condolences to Margaret’s loved ones and we pray that she is resting in peace.
