God’s Greatest Gifts

God’s grace and mercy lead Leslie to discover her breast cancer early and guide her on the best path for her recovery.

The theme for Women’s Bible Study was PINK for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Little did I know, that night would change my life forever! Instructions were given on self exams, so I went home and did it. To my amazement, I found a lump, no, it couldn’t be, no one in my family had breast cancer. So my journey began.

On October 18, 2011, I had a mammogram and an ultrasound, which led to the biopsy, then the dreadful result from the small irregular shaped lump. I was diagnosed October 31, 2011 with stage 1B, triple negative breast cancer. There was the consultation with the surgeon, then surgery November 14. The small 1.4cm tumor was removed along with 7 lymph nodes, which were all negative. Thank God!

Triple negative cancer is a very aggressive type, so my doctors decided to treat me very aggressively..I would have to be treated with radiation and chemotherapy. God has blessed me in so many ways…first, by Him letting me find it early, leading me to the best team of doctors, and keeping me through it all. I was able to have internal radiation, which is not an option for many. I was able to do 5 days twice a day. I started chemo on Dec 28 and will have a total of 8 treatments every two weeks.

God’s grace and His mercy, with the support of my wonderful husband, children, family and friends have helped me to stay very positive! I changed my diet…I juice every morning, eat lots of fruits and veggies, take plenty of vitamins, and drink lots of water. Still working on the exercise. I know prayers along with Faith have gotten me go through this. When I think about His goodness and mercy..Thank You Lord!
