Has Pride Invaded Your Heart? Here’s What To Look Out For

Because of it’s very nature, pride can be difficult to identify in our own hearts. So how can we be sure that we haven’t let the cancer of pride invade our lives? Here are a few key symptoms to be on the look out for…

2. A Harsh Spirit

If you have pride lurking beneath the surface, chances are you are not the most patient of people. When confronted with a person or a situation that is uncomfortable, pride gets angry and lashes out in insults, judgement, and gossip. I have found that one of the best tests of pride is sitting in traffic. Where is my heart at? Am I angry that I have to sit here? Do I feel entitled to a better commute? Do I make passive aggressive comments to the car ahead of me? Do I make aggressive aggressive gestures when someone cuts me off?

3. Superficiality

Far beyond mere vanity, the prideful heart of a Christian centers everything around the appearance of holiness. If pride has seeped into your heart, you are more concerned with steering clear of the sins that look bad, and less concerned with actually having discipline about the secret sins we all deal with on a daily basis.
