Marathon Runner’s Down Syndrome Daughter Is “Perfect”

At first, Heath White struggled to come to terms with his daughter’s developmental limitations. A marathon runner, he no longer goes alone alone. He has discovered the joy of pushing Paisley.

“Have an abortion,” Heath White urged his wife. The couple already had one beautiful little girl, and they had just learned that their second child would be born with Down Syndrome. But Heath’s wife Jennifer was firmly pro-life and refused to abort the child, even though she feared continuing the pregnancy might mean the end of her marriage. Heath was a success – an Air Force pilot, marathon runner, college graduate and respected businessman – and his children were supposed to be successes, too. Struggling to come to terms with his daughter’s developmental limitations, Heath only accepted when daughter Paisley laughed with her father as an infant. His heart transformed, Heath went back to run marathons. But he doesn’t do it alone. He has discovered the joy of pushing Paisley.
