This Boy Saved Memorial Day for This World War II Vet

When bad weather halted the 2016 Memorial Day plans of people from North Bellmore, New York, an 11-year old boy refused to let rain ruin one World War II veteran’s parade.

Sad that the local veterans would not have a parade to honor their fallen comrades, Nicholas DeGregorio, a fifth-grade student at Newbridge Road Elementary School, decided to play his trumpet through the car window while his parents drove along the route of the canceled parade he was supposed to play in. After stopping at Nicholas’ school, the family learned that Chris Iannacone, a disabled veteran, did not know that the parade had been canceled and was already on his way over. Determined not to leave Chris disappointed, Nicholas volunteered to play “You’re a Grand Old Flag” for him, visibly delighting the veteran.
