Secrets to Shopping at Costco That You’ll Wish You Knew Years Ago

Everything you need to know before your next Costco run!

Who doesn’t love shopping at Costco? Ok, maybe the shopping itself can be stressful at times, but there’s no denying the money saved after a trip to Costco! We’ve compiled a list of some of the best tips and tricks to make sure you get the most out of your next trip to this popular store.

Shopping Without A Membership

Part of what makes Costco (and other similar stores) work, is that they are membership-based, which means that members pay an annual fee to shop at the store. There, however, a few ways to get around this, if it’s a problem for you. First, you can use a number of grocery shopping apps that allow someone else to go in and shop for you and deliver your groceries. You can also use a Costco cash card, but only members are allowed to buy them. If you have a friend who is a member, you can ask them to buy you a Costco cash card to use!

Center Court

We all know that product placement is everything, and even more so in a huge store like Costco! According to Paco Underhill, the author of the book, “Why We Buy,” most big box stores put their best deals in the center aisles of the store.

Secret Pricing

You already know you’re getting a good deal whenever you step foot inside Costco, but there are a few secret pricing tips to let you know if you’re getting the lowest price possible. If you see a price ending in .97, then you know that product is popular and will sell out fast. Additionally, if you see an asterisk by the price, you know it’s as low as it’s going to get.

Kirkland Signature Brand

If you’ve shopped at Costco for any amount of time, then you’re probably very familiar with their store brand – Kirkland Signature. You’ll be happy to know that most of the Kirkland Signature products are just as good, if not better than the top brand names of the same item. For example, one of the most popular Kirkland Signature products sold at Costco is vodka. It turns out, the Kirkland version is made from the same water source as Grey Goose vodka, and it has even won a few blind taste tests against pricier liquors!

The Best Time To Shop

The one downside to all of this money-saving greatness is the lines, of course. If you’ve ever been to Costco on a Saturday or Sunday, then you know what we’re talking about – you’re dodging people left and right, fighting through the crowds to get your shopping done, only to stand in line for an hour! Some research has been done on the best times to shop at Costco. The results say that the store is the least crowded from 3-5pm on weekdays. A Costco manager also states that the store is usually pretty quiet about forty-five minutes before closing.
