In Caribou River, Nova Scotia, Ron Carruthers was going about a normal Saturday. Like most of us, he was doing some yard work and cleaning up his property. Unlike most of us, he came across a balloon that would connect he and his wife to a family over 1,200 miles (and an international boarder) away. See, on February 28th, the Millers released the balloon addressed “To: Pearly Gates – Heaven,” in memory of their departed matriarch Joyce, who would have been celebrating her 60th birthday. Ron’s wife Judy talks to Joyce’s husband Randy and tells him how the Carruthers look at Caribout River as “a little piece of heaven right here; we had a little chuckle” that the balloon just may have reached its destination.
