Biblical New Year’s Resolutions

Forget about shedding pounds or reading through Oprah’s book list – true change and lasting happiness comes from one place alone: God.

Forgive

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Colossians 3:12-13

Ugh, I know, this one is tough. Even as I type this, there are a couple of names in the back of my head, and I can forgive pretty much anything and anyone except for them. The thing is, forgiveness is a lot more healing for you than it is for whoever hurt you. Once you can view them as a sinner who is helpless to achieve righteousness on their own – just like you are – it becomes a lot easier to extend grace. And when you no longer carry around the dead weight of that broken relationship, you will be all the more free to love and praise God. I know, it’s a lot easier said than done. But it’s only January. You’ve got time.
