“Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father”

— Matthew 13:43

In 2010, 11-year-old Lane Goodwin developed a rare form of childhood cancer out of the blue, and it was serious. For over two years he knew he was very sick and there were relentless medical procedures, exams and hospital stays. But through it all, Lane remained calm and happy. He loved Jesus with all his heart and was willing to accept whatever fate God had in store for him. He often told his mother that he was ready to be with God and that he wasn’t scared or sad.

Mainly as a way to keep friends and family updated on Lane’s condition, the family started using Facebook and other social media. It wasn’t long before they were connecting with other parents who had children with cancer. And before too long, Lane Goodwin had captured the attention of people all around the world.

Celebrities started uploading videos to YouTube to send positive messages to Lane, and “Thumbs Up For Lane Goodwin” became a campaign phrase that people were repeating around the globe and in cyberspace.

Sadly, Lane did succumb to his illness on Oct. 17, 2012, and the world mourns his loss. But at the same time, his story is also a happy one. Check out this amazing video and see how Lane inspired kids with cancer to not be afraid, and how his faith extended to inspire others in their own faith. God Bless this brave, compassionate boy! His legacy has made an impact and will live on.
