Autistic Boy Saves Family from Fire
Autism leaves people with communication disorders and extreme difficulty in connecting with others. Often unable to adapt to high-stimulation situations, children can be overwhelmed. Not so with Alex Swigart. The nine-year-old boy, calm in the face of a housefire, was the first to notice the smoke and flames. He went into his fathers’ room and crawled under the smoke. His father Joseph, however, only remembers that Alex gave his own life to save him.
