The first several minutes of the Disney/Pixar hit Up is some of the finest filmmaking we’ve ever seen, unfolding a story free of dialog between Carl and his beloved wife Ellie, from meet-cute to Ellie’s passing, the struggles of adulthood from finances to fertility, car trouble to cancer. It is uplifting and heartwrenching, and the relationship between the lead couple is one we all might strive for.
