Condemnation says, “You’re guilty, go away from me,” but conviction says, “You have sinned, come near to me so that I may forgive you.” This truth is at the heart of the Gospel – even for those of us who have been Christians for years! We still need reminding that every hour of every day, God calls us to repent. Not to beat ourselves up over our guilt and shame, but to repent so that he may restore us to fullness of joy. Jesus came so that we would be truly forgiven, for all of our sins, and so that we would be free to love and be loved by God.
