Painting On X-Ray: Making The Broken Beautiful

When people notice the X-Ray canvas instead of just the painting, Stephanie can remind them – and herself – that we ask”what’s wrong,” but that our brokenness can be made beautiful.

I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite. – Isaiah 57:15

Stephanie needed a way to get away from the busyness of the city, so she started painting on rooftops. Looking at the world around and below her, everything is chaos, frenetic and moving, but in her solitude, she has space to breathe and be still. This introspection might be what triggered her to start using X-ray photography as her canvas. When people notice the canvas instead of just the painting, Stephanie can remind them – and herself – that we look at the X-ray asking “what’s wrong,” awaiting the bad news, but that through this diagnosis and care, our brokenness can be made beautiful.

Be reminded that His strength is made perfect in our weakness in the video below!
