Only God Has The Solution

A young woman reconciles with her mother’s illness in the face of breast cancer and other health battles.

Children often rely on the strength of their mothers to reassure them that everything will be alright. This can be true even with adult children, but that becomes more challenging when the person who has always been there for you is facing a life-threatening health crisis. Read how one young woman is finding strength in love and faith.

At the age of 45 my mother was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Over the past 15 years, there have been complications which led to disability. By age 55, both hips were replaced along with her left knee, while her right knee is pending surgery. This was necessary because her bones became brittle, causing unbearable pain. She also had cataract surgery on her left eye. She’s undergone so much physical hardship, and we understand her pain and her hopes of walking again. One day, I was bathing her when I felt a lump under her arm near the breast. She went to her doctor, who performed a biopsy. She was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. When I heard the news, my heart shattered into a million pieces and I fell slowly to the ground, tears running down my face. My mum was traumatized. I questioned God: why does my mum have to face all these struggles and challenges? She is a righteous woman; why all these problems? It hurts to see the one you love most in so much pain when all you can do is pray.

[content-ad]I am 22 years old and praying for a miracle. Since her mastectomy, she is even sicker than she was five years ago, because she was unable to complete her treatment. The medication was too strong for her body because of her other illnesses. I love my mum to death. I admire her courage, love, and appreciation for life. I stand by her day and night, and her love keeps me going. She never gives up and believes strongly in God. Only God has the solutions to all our challenges!
