If you asked Jim O’Connor’s students, they would tell you the 70-year-old Vietnam veteran is a tough but fair teacher, good…but not friendly, not loving. That was until one senior volunteered for a blood drive at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. There, every staff member knew Jim O’Connor and the school where he taught. Why?
