Kenny Thompson has been volunteering in Houston elementary schools for years. Sitting down and helping a struggling student with math, reading – whatever needs work, this tutor is there. But what about when the problem is lunch and hunger? With over 60 kids receiving subpar lunches at Valley Oaks Elementary School because they couldn’t afford to pay the balance on their school district nutrition accounts, Kenny knew they weren’t performing as well in class or in his tutoring time. “It broke my heart,” says Thompson. “These are elementary kids. They’re not bankers, and not responsible for the financial issues in the household.” So he took it on himself to pay the balance – all $465 of it. See the love of a man for the students he helps everyday in the video below!
