One Man Is Keeping A 90-Year-Old History Alive With The Last Howard Johnson’s Restaurant

Do you remember Howard Johnson’s restaurants? While the first location opened in 1925, Howard Johnson’s was one of the biggest restaurant chains in the 70’s, until the brand gradually began to fade. And though many people may have never heard of Howard Johnson’s these days, one restaurant remains open thanks to the efforts of John LaRock.

LaRock, who started out as a dishwasher at Howard Johnson’s 30 years ago, spent more than $200,000 to re-open Howard Johnson’s, where the original orange roof is as glorious as ever.
