This Castle Sisters 1961 Performance Of ‘Mairzy Doats’ Is Still Mesmerizing

It sounds like a cliche, but I had to watch this performance more than once.

It sounds like a cliche, but I had to watch this performance more than once. On a particular episode of the 1961 television series Glenn Miller Time, the world was introduced to the lovely, charming Castle Sisters.

Although Josie, Joanie, and Audrey Kossol were born in Pennsylvania, they moved to New York City in the mid 1950s to pursue their love of music — and succeeded! They first recorded under the moniker “The Kossol Sisters” in 1956. But in 1959 they not only switched record labels, they also changed their name, and became “The Castle Sisters”.

The Castle sisters perform a trio on television.

In the following clip, the trio performs the hilariously catchy and bizarre song “Mairzy Doats” in a medley of old-time songs that is just delightful. They have such stage presence and magnetism that it’s hard to look away for even one second… see for yourself!
