Hidden Benefits of Social Media

Like it or not, social media is here to stay. And it actually isn’t all bad. You’ve heard the negatives, but here are a few of the positives brought on by social media:

2. Social Media Actually Boosts Self Confidence

The Common Sense Media study also showed that 1 in 5 teens said social media makes them feel more confident, compared with 4% who said it makes them feel less so. This is a really profound statement, considering the study focused on “tweens and teens.” At such a vulnerable age, positive reinforcement from peers goes a really long way.

3. Connects People Of Common Interest

Social media adds a layer of communication and depth to our existing relationships and also helps us form new relationships with people we would otherwise be isolated from. This is such an empowering tool, especially for kids who are naturally introverted, or who maybe have an unusual hobby that no one else in their school cares about. That kid can hop online and find other kids who are totally into miniature war games, or Scottish folk dancing, and they will know they are not alone in their passion.
