It’s not everyday that someone who has never played piano before suddenly acquires the ability of a virtuoso… but that’s exactly what happened to Derek Amato, after a dive into the swimming pool left him with a severe brain concussion. Derek’s story is profound, and is not easily explained by science. He discovered his unusual new talent when he was inexplicably drawn to a friend’s piano and his fingers instinctively knew just where to go on the keyboard–like someone who had been playing piano for years! Although medical science has a name for his condition, they are at a loss to fully explain how or why it happens.
