When German military and political leaders at last signed a formal surrender in May of 1945, Russell Taylor was stationed in Paris, having pushed out the Nazi occupation from Normandy on. And it was here, working alongside the free French forces, that he met Odile Metzger, a translator who “took the sunshine wherever she went.” So as the war came to its close, Russell asked Odile to marry him – and it was done. Nearly 70 years later, Odile has never returned home, and Russell had never said goodbye to so many friends lost in storming Utah Beach – until now. See this loving couple’s dedication to each other, to home, and to friends long past in the video below!
