8 Things I’ve Learned Since High School

Whether you look back on your teenage years fondly or with contempt, one thing is certainly true; the biggest adventures are yet to come. It’s been 7 years since my high school graduation, and I’ve learned a few things along the way…

2. Being authentic is way better than being popular.

Oh how I wish that the urge to be queen bee went away after high school. Unfortunately the desire to be #1 never really goes away, it just finds new contexts in which to rear its ugly head. Molly listens to a cool indie band? You heard of them first, before they were cool. Natalie decided to go on a 30 day cleanse? Good for her, you decided to only buy groceries locally, from farmers whom you’ve personally met. See where I’m going with this? Here’s the thing though, none of those things are bad in and of themselves, but the older you get, the easier you are able to spot a fake. You don’t need everyone else’s approval, just be who you are!

3. Even though you haven’t done 1/2 the things you thought you would by now, you’ve actually done so much more.

Maybe you had a long list of the academic degrees you would have by age 28, or the number of kids you would have or the places you would have traveled to. You look at that list and realize you haven’t done half those things. But I bet you’ve had some experiences that shaped who you are in more meaningful ways than you could have ever imagined. Life isn’t one big bucket list, and often times the most important lessons come from some pretty mundane and unexpected places. Which brings us to our next point…
